Dear Arts Center Families,
We are excited to announce that the Oldham County Schools Arts Center will be opening for in-person instruction for the 2020-21 school year! This letter includes information about returning to the Arts Center for face to face teaching and includes our safety protocols set by the Kentucky Department of Education’s Healthy at Schools guidelines and directions given to us by the Oldham County Board of Education in order to keep your child safe.
Everyone’s number one concern is how to create the healthiest and safest learning environment possible for our students and staff. For those families who choose in-person instruction, we need to make sure that we are taking every precaution not only when it comes to cleaning surfaces around the building but also in implementing the logistics around our schedule, student transitions, curriculum design and performance opportunities.
Thankfully the Arts Center has large classroom spaces available and we can cap enrollment of specific student groups in order to safely adapt to our building’s footprint. We will be committed to social distancing in all learning situations at the Arts Center. Students will have masks on as they enter the building and move between classes and we will be able to maintain adequate spacing between students even as they walk our hallways. The dropping of masks can be allowed in all of our classroom scenarios.
We will be taking other steps to keep our classrooms, hallways and common areas as clean as possible for our students and staff. Our dedicated custodial staff will thoroughly sanitize each classroom, every evening. As we get closer to the start of the school year there could be other measures that we are taking that we will share with you.
For students who do not feel comfortable returning to in-person instruction we will have virtual options available for you in order to further your artistic training. Our fall programs are currently accepting registrations online. We are providing daily updates as classes are added that will include an option to join via live stream. If you do not see an online option for a class/discipline that interests you, do not hesitate to let us know. If enough students are identified with similar interests, we will work hard to add new classes that are taught exclusively by a teacher in an online format.
Beyond participation at the Arts Center we all need to work together to protect each other. A successful school year also involves staying personally vigilant in wearing masks, social distancing, and washing your hands frequently when out in the community.
Stay healthy and enjoy your last few weeks of summer. Don’t hesitate to reach out with any need you have.
