Opening Day 2023

During a Special Called Board Meeting on August 8, the Oldham County Board of Education approved several important motions that will have a positive impact on the District. After the meeting, Dr. Radford and board members shared the good news with staff and media.

Motions approved include hiring an additional School Resource Officer, bringing our SRO total to 11 officers. The Board also approved a motion to increase the substitute daily rate by $30. Additionally, the Board approved a stipend for full-time and part-time staff to thank them for their commitment to Oldham County Schools and to recognize the hard work they’ve already put in this year. This is open to anyone who is hired by September 15. The stipends are $1500 for full-time employees and $750 for part-time employees.

During the Opening Day announcements, Dr. Radford also unveiled the new district logo and tagline – Ignite Passion. Experience Excellence.

At the heart of the logo is the flame of the torch. The flame represents the passion for education that the district aims to ignite within students, staff, families, and community. It symbolizes the spark of inspiration that leads to growth, achievement, and lifelong learning among students.

The torch's pillar-like structure embodies the concept of excellence. It signifies the district's unwavering dedication to providing exceptional education and support to its students, setting high standards for academic achievement, character development, and personal growth. The pillar represents the solid foundation that the district aims to build for its students, empowering them to become well-rounded individuals capable of making a positive impact on their communities and the world. It represents the district’s dedication to elevate the experience for the four pillars within the strategic plan: students, staff, families, and community.

The gold colors within the logo are also indicative of our pursuit of excellence. There is no higher standard than the gold standard.

Together, this logo creates a powerful visual representation of the district's commitment to both passion and excellence. It communicates the idea that through the district's educational programs and supportive environment, students will be inspired to pursue their passions while receiving the necessary tools, resources, and guidance to excel in all aspects of their academic and personal lives.
