SBDM Councils
School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Councils
The Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA) of 1990 established school-based decision making councils, a significant step towards enhancing educational leadership and fostering a collaborative environment within our schools.
SBDM councils are comprised of parents, teachers, and school administrators, ensuring that the voices of those who are closest to the students are heard in the decision-making process. The responsibilities of these school councils include setting school policies and making important decisions as outlined in KRS 160.345. This means that they have a direct impact on the day-to-day operations and long-term strategies of their respective schools.
