A Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) Day allows learning to continue when inclement weather prevents students from attending school in person. Instead of a traditional snow day that must be made up later, students complete assignments at home while being counted present for the day. These assignments come from core subjects including reading, mathematics, science, and social studies and allow students to continue learning even during weather disruptions.

No. The decision to declare an NTI day depends on several important factors: the severity of the weather conditions, how many days school may be impacted, and the timing of the storm. Our administration carefully evaluates each situation to make the best decision for our school community. We commit to communicating NTI day decisions as promptly as possible to allow families time to prepare.

Finding your child's assignments depends on their grade level:

For elementary and secondary students, visit your school's homepage and click the NTI link. You'll find a grade-specific Google Doc listing assignments for each subject area. Teachers may also send home additional assignments before anticipated weather events.

For secondary students specifically, most assignments will be posted in Google Classroom.

We understand not every family has reliable internet access. If you do not have internet access, accommodations can be made with your child's teacher to make offline materials available. 

Secondary students with internet access can submit work through Google Classroom. All students can return completed assignments to their teachers when school resumes. We provide a three-day grace period after returning to school for submitting NTI work so that every student has adequate time to complete and turn in assignments.

We want every student to succeed with NTI. If work is misplaced, teachers will help students complete missing assignments when they are back at school. However, please note that if work isn't submitted by the final make-up day, your child may be marked absent for the NTI day and may receive a zero for any assignment that is not turned in.

NTI assignments are designed to be meaningful but manageable. Each student works at their own pace, so completion time varies. However, students are not expected to do schoolwork for the entire day. The goal is to encourage learning while recognizing the unique circumstances of a snow day.

Absolutely! We encourage students to enjoy their snow day. NTI work doesn't have to be completed during traditional school hours (9am-3:30pm). Students can alternate between outdoor activities and schoolwork throughout the day or complete assignments in the evening. The flexibility of NTI allows families to structure the day in a way that works best for them.

NTI days are regular workdays for our teachers and principals. Throughout the day, teachers remain available via phone and email to support students and parents with assignments or questions. This ensures that help is readily available when needed.

It helps students develop independence and time management skills while preventing the need to make up missed days at the end of the school year.
