Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to inform you of important changes regarding the administration of both prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications at school. The Kentucky Department of Education has issued these updates due to revised guidance from the Kentucky Department for Public Health and the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
Prescription Medications:
- All prescription medications administered at school must now be accompanied by a written doctor’s order. You can access the form for your doctor’s order here.
- Please note: A prescription label does not meet this requirement and cannot be accepted as a substitute for a doctor’s order.
Over-the-Counter (OTC) Medications:
- Schools can now supply and administer certain OTC medications at school at no cost.
- To provide OTC medications, we will require a signed parental consent form linked here.
- Parents/guardians will be notified anytime OTC medication is requested for their student.
- If a parent/guardian chooses to bring their own OTC medication for their student, a doctor’s order will also be required. You can use the same form as the prescription medication form.
We understand these changes may require additional steps, but they are necessary to ensure compliance with state guidelines and to keep our students safe.
