Oldham County Schools A/B ScheduleWe are excited to welcome our in-person middle and high school students into our buildings on September 28th

In order to limit the number of people in the building at any one time, students will return on an A/B schedule which was sent to students earlier this month.

Oldham County Schools AB Schedule LogoFAQs

Q: Why are you only doing this for middle and high schools?

A: The purpose of the A/B schedule is to reduce the number of students in classrooms and the school building at once. Elementary school classrooms have already been reduced by enrollment in the VLA and therefore can return to in-person on their regular schedule. However, this may change as the year continues. If our number of in-person elementary students increases, we may need to introduce an A/B schedule at the elementary as well.

Q: Is there a set time that we will be on the A/B schedule?

A: We are on the A/B schedule for middle and high school until further notice. We continue to monitor the COVID-19 numbers daily and base our decisions on data trends. You will be notified if there will be changes to the A/B schedule.

Q: My child is on the B schedule. In person class starts Monday 8/28. Her first in person is Tuesday 8/29. What is the plan for 8/28 for B schedule students?

A: Teachers will communicate assignments with them later this week while they have them in NTI classes.

Q: Will after-school extra-curricular activities and sports still continue?

A: Yes, they will continue as normal.

Q: How does this affect students with IEPs?

A: Students with disabilities will continue to receive special education services on the A/B schedule. On the days students attend school in person, they will receive services in person according to their IEP. On days they are working from home, support will be included in the form of accommodated/ modified activities that incorporate the student's specific specially designed instruction and supplementary aids and services as outlined in the IEP.

Q: How does this affect students with 504s?

A: Students with 504 plans will continue to receive their accommodations on the A/B schedule. On days they are working from home, accommodations will be embedded in the activities when appropriate for independent work tasks.

Q: How will students get free meals on the days they are not at school?

A: Students will have the opportunity to take food home to cover the days they are not at school.

Q: What are the benefits of the A/B schedule?

A: This will reduce the number of people who students and staff encounter daily. We will have fewer students on buses, more room to spread out in the classrooms, cafeteria, other areas in the building, and outdoors. Fewer cars in the drop-off and pick-up line and quicker temperature checks upon arrival to school.

Q: What is the earliest time that my student can be dropped off at school?

A: 8:15 for middle and high school students

Q: Will my child still be able to take the same classes on their current schedule?

A: Yes

Q: We live in a blended household and our children have different last names, will they go to school on the same days?

A: High school and middle school students in the same Infinite Campus “household” will be assigned to the same “A” or “B” schedule regardless of the students’ last names. We will prioritize keeping families together in the same group.

Q: My student is enrolled in the Virtual Learning Academy but I like this option better. Can I change their enrollment?

A: Not until the next trimester which starts on November 23. VLA is a trimester by trimester commitment. The open enrollment period for the second trimester will be October 12 - November 1.

Q: Will this impact transportation?

A: This will lessen the number of students riding the bus each day. We suggest you periodically check e-Link for adjustments to your child's pick-up or drop-off time.

Q: How is attendance taken?

A: On in-person days, attendance will be taken and reported as normal in Infinite Campus.

On home learning days, participation will be substituted for traditional attendance. Participation credit can be determined in the following ways:

Assignments submitted digitally on a home learning day (submissions via Google Classroom, Flipgrid, etc.)

Assignments submitted the next day upon return to school

Q: What do students do on the days they are not in the school building?

A: Teachers will provide appropriate independent assignments for students to work on for days when they are not in the classroom. Students should complete approximately 40 minutes of independent work for each class on home learning days. We recommend that you designate independent work time for each class as it occurs in the student’s schedule. For example, if a student has math class at 8:45 and starts science at 9:45 while at school, independent work could be accomplished at those designated times at home.

Q: How will Arvin classes work that already run on an A/B schedule under normal conditions?

A: On days when students are in-person, they will attend class at Arvin on a modified schedule which will be shared on their website. Please check the Arvin Center’s website often.

On days when students are learning at home, teachers will utilize Google Classroom to share videos, assignments, or activities. This will be asynchronous instruction with required tasks assigned.

All VLA students will be attending Arvin classes via Live stream. VLA students will attend class virtually on the A/B day they are assigned by the district.

Q: Can I change from A schedule to B schedule or vice versa?

A: No, unfortunately we can't allow changes. An algorithm in Infinite Campus was used to split class sizes as evenly as possible. In order to offer in-person classes, we must reduce class size, and allowing changes could tip the scales.
