Parking
Parents may park in the front parking lot. Additional parking is located beside the school in the Jungle (Day Care) parking lot.
Parental Transportation
The building opens to students at 7:20 a.m. You may bring your children to school between 7:20-7:40 a.m. Afternoon dismissal is at 2:20 p.m. The designated drop-off and pick-up area is located at the front of the school. No one may drop students off at the side of the school. An attendant will be at the front entrance of the school during morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal to ensure safety of all students. Please have your children ready to exit your car when you stop at the designated area. Your child will need to exit your car from the right-hand door only and have them use the sidewalk to the entrance door. We want to keep the traffic moving so everyone gets to work or school on time. Please drive slowly when you are entering and exiting the school parking lots. If you arrive early to the carpool line, please turn off your car engine as you wait.
Visiting the School
You are always welcome at Kenwood Station Elementary. When you come into the school, please stop by the office to sign in. The office staff will give you a visitor or volunteer tag to wear at all times when you are in the building. You must sign out of the building when you leave. It is school and district policy that we know who is in the building at all times. In order to volunteer, join your child on a field trip, etc., you must have a background check completed and on file in the office before you can volunteer. Please come to the office if you need a form or if you have questions.
Medicine
If your child needs medicine anytime during the year you will need to bring the medicine into the office and sign an "Authorization to Give Medicine" form. This form must be filled out before we can give medicine to your child. If your child has an EPI-Pen or an inhaler you must see the office personnel as soon as possible. Office hours are 7:20 a.m. – 3:50 p.m. Please call the office to make special arrangements if our office hours do not fit your schedule. Please remember that the Jungle needs the same medical information as the school office. To ensure safety in our school, please DO NOT send medicine with your child on the bus or in their backpack.
Late Arrivals
(School Day: 7:40 a.m. – 2:20 p.m.)
If you are running late and you know your child cannot be in his/her classroom by 7:40 a.m., you must come into the front entrance of the school and sign your child in. This is a School District Policy that must be followed. Children cannot sign the form. The form requires a parent/guardian signature.
Bus Notes/Dismissal
We encourage your child to have a consistent way to get home each day. If you need to change your child’s trip home, you must use the designated school transportation form. The form is provided in the first day packet and at school for your convenience. If there is a change during the school day, please call the school before 1:30 p.m. Please remember that only the parent or guardian that is listed on the "Emergency Form" can notify the office to make a change of dismissal. If you pick up your children in the afternoon, please pick them up by 2:20 p.m. Any changes in your child’s schedule would require the child to be signed out in the office.
Volunteers
We welcome all volunteers, tutors, chaperones, cafeteria volunteers, etc. to Kenwood Station Elementary. For your child’s safety all volunteers must have a background records check. This is mandated by the Kentucky Legislature.
Lunch/Cafeteria
You are invited to eat with your child during their lunch period. We encourage parents to eat our cafeteria food and not to bring food in from a restaurant. Please notify the teacher or the cafeteria by a written note or phone call so our lunch count is accurate. Students that are pre-paid must pay on Monday (or the first school day of the week). A student is only allowed three charges. Snacks/Rewards will be used to promote a healthy nutritional diet. We encourage students to bring healthy snacks to school. Candy will not be used for rewards or allowed during school celebrations.
Students Forgetting Lunch, Snacks, Gym Shoes, Homework, Etc.
Please encourage your children to be organized and prepare things for the next day. If your child forgets his/her homework, and you bring it to the school, the office staff will place the homework in the teacher’s mailbox. Teachers frequently check their mailboxes, so your child will get his/her homework. We will interrupt the classroom for lunch money, sack lunches, gym clothes at the appropriate time. This helps instruction to continue without interruptions.
Phone Calls
The office is instructed not to interrupt the classroom for phone calls. You may place a message on a staff member’s voice mail.
Communication from Kenwood Station Elementary
For your convenience, we have set up a communication folder, which is called "Take Home Tuesday Folder." Please send the envelope back to school signed on the following day. In this folder you will find information from your teacher, school, PTA correspondence, etc. Please look for the folder on Tuesday of each week during the school year. Please look for orange paper; this will be the color for the Administrative Staff.
Animals
Due to the numerous allergies of our students, animals (dogs, cats) cannot be brought into the school for "Show and Tell" activities.
Parent Conferences
Parent conferences can be held anytime during the year. Parents may call their child’s teacher to set up a conference. A scheduled parent conference will be held after the first nine weeks grading period. Parents will view their student’s progress report during the first parent conference. The first nine weeks progress report will be discussed at the first parent conference. This procedure has been beneficial in the past because parents are able to ask questions about their child’s progress and view their student’s work.
Physical Wellness
Each teacher takes his or her class outside for 15 minutes per day (weather permitting).
Qualified Staff
Our school is proud of our highly qualified staff. Parents have the right to request the qualifications of their child's teacher. Please process requests through the front office.
