Principal's Teacher Spotlight

Principal's Teacher Spotlight Mrs. Gaynor

ExCEL Award

The WHAS11 ExCEL Award is given yearly to a select group of teachers in Kentuckiana for going above and beyond for their students, fellow teachers, and communities. The purpose of the ExCEL award, which stands for Excellence in Classroom and Educational Leadership is to recognize and reward the contributions of public-school teachers to the development and well-being students. It recognizes teachers who exemplify teaching excellence through innovation and enthusiasm, who maintain meaningful relationships with students, parents, and colleagues and who are committed to continued professional development and enhancement.

In partnership with LG&E/KU, the teacher is presented with a golden apple award and a $1000 check to use in the classroom. The winner will be featured in an exclusive segment, highlighting their teaching career, on WHAS news in May (projected to be May 10).

This year's applicants, who are nominated by school administrators, truly represented the best of the best in Oldham County Schools. After a blind review of the applications, Ms. Mann was chosen as the teacher who best represented the meaning of the WHAS11 ExCEL award.  Congratulations to Ms. Mann!!!

Swamp Registration!

Swamp is currently enrolling for the summer and next school year.  Space is limited.  Please email Pam Parson to register @

Lost and Found!

Attention Parents: Our lost and found will be donated to a local clothing charity on Wednesday May 12th.   If you are missing any articles of clothing, we have an enormous number of coats, jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, that will be leaving at 2 PM on 5/12.   If you are missing anything, please have your child check the Lost and found located in the cafeteria or if they need help, have them contact Ms. Nevills and she will help them.

KPREP testing will begin the week of May 17 for our 3rd - 5th grade students.  Per testing regulations, students are not permitted to have phones or smartwatches on them during a testing session.  I highly recommend that students leave their devices at home during the assessment window.  If you feel your student needs a device for communicating after school, please ensure that the device is powered off and remains in your child's bag until the end of the day.

All students in grades 3, 4, 5 ( VLA and in-person) will take the K-PREP (Kentucky Performance for Rating Educational Progress)

state assessment May 18, 19, 20 , 21, 24.   The following grade levels will be assessed in these content areas:

  • Third grade: Reading and Mathematics

  • Fourth grade: Reading, Mathematics, and Science

  • Fifth grade: Reading, Mathematics,  and On Demand Writing

Results from an analysis of the K-PREP is used to modify teacher instruction, as well as identify areas of growth and areas of excellence.

Important:  Please refrain from making doctor’s appointments during the testing window.  No student can miss any part of the test.  If your child is absent, tardy, or leaves early for dismissal, the test portion missed will have to be made up at a later date.  This adds more stress on the student as he or she doubles up on portions of the test taken in one day.

VLA students are required by the Ky Department of Education to take KPREP in person. Specific dates and times will be available shortly to help parents plan for this important task.

5th Grade Legacy Gift
Each school year, our 5th graders have traditionally left a legacy in some fashion for future Gators to remember them by and to honor their time in Elementary School.   For the 2020–2021-year, recess equipment and games will be purchased for next year's class along with a donation that has already been made to Camp Hi Ho toward their fire recovery efforts.   Mark your calendars for May 13th - this is the last theme day ($2.00 donation, Crazy Hair Day) for proceeds that will go toward the legacy Gift.

Garden beds

Our school has a new garden area! Using funds from an Oldham County Education Foundation Pyramid Grant and with great help from a local Eagle Scout, Goshen now has 6 large garden beds - one for each grade level to enjoy and decide how to use.  Let's grow Goshen!!
