Ballet/Tap/Jazz : This class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Tap is a popular style of American theatrical dance distinguished by percussive footwork that marks out precise rhythmic patterns on the floor. Musical Theatre Repertoire I & II : These courses involve the study of dance, movement, voice and staging for musical theatre and culminates in choreographed/staged works from a variety of musical theatre productions.They include strategies for learning and performing dance combinations as they occur in a professional dance audition.
Elements of Music Theory: Focus on building a solid foundation in music theory in both melodic and rhythmic terms; Ear training; Sight singing; Melodic and Rhythmic notation. Classwork and Assignments include memorization of pitch names in Treble and Bass clef; Mastering major/minor key signatures; Understanding Melodic and Rhythmic terminology; Keeping time in various rhythms/meters/tempi; Ear training.
Group Voice Class: In this class, instruction will provide an introduction to “good breathing, posture, diction, and resonance, and to expose the students to vocal terminology and a wide variety of literature.
Acting for Musical Theatre: This course will explore the utilization of the acting process through song. It will address the unique challenges of the genre for the performer through work with scenes, ensemble and small group songs, characterizations, vocal work and choreography.
Junior Prep (11th)/Senior Prep (12th): This course is an intentional effort to assist CAPAA students in being fully prepared for college or industry auditions. The focus will include working with students to put together music binders, select colleges to consider for post-secondary education and refine repertoire for auditions.
Cabaret: Culminating class preparing the senior class for an end of the year performance highlighting all that they have learned in dance, voice and acting.
