PTSA’s College and Career Nights

The district’s College & Career Night programs are sponsored by all 3 high school PTSAs. Programs will be hosted at either SOHS, OCHS or Arvin Center this year. Please see calendar below for each session’s location.  ALL students and families are welcome and are encouraged to attend.


August 30, 2018

 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.

 South Oldham High School Cafeteria





Learn what all high school students need to know and do during their high school years to be in the best position to select & apply to college.  Discussion that night will include other college related topics, including increasing scholarship eligibility, registering for standardized tests and knowing what to ask college admissions directors when you attend Oldham County’s Regional College Fair.  Pam Brown from College Prep Resources will be presenting.

(Suited for ALL grade levels)

South Oldham High School Cafeteria and Auditorium



Pick up materials and meet admissions directors from colleges, technical schools, and career schools. Large, medium and small sized schools from various states (KY, IN, OH, AL, IL, NC, TN and more) will be in attendance!  Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about programs, majors, and scholarships that the schools have to offer.

(Great program for grades 10 – 12)

KHEAA - Paying for College 101


This workshop, lead by KHEAA outreach counselor Candice Johnson, will help students and parents understand the financial aid application process and the FAFSA.  Learn how college aid packages are computed, as well as how to obtain college grants and loans.

(Best for grades 11 & 12)

  Filing the FAFSA Assistance

KHEAA and college financial aid counselors will assist families in completing their FAFSA online in the media center. Bring your completed 2017 taxes.

  The ACT, PSAT & SAT:

How They Affect College Admission and Scholarship Opportunities


Learn the importance of and why students take these standardized tests for college admission and scholarship opportunities. This seminar will also address how the tests differ, what students can do to improve their scores, and when students should plan to test. Pam Brown from College Prep Resources will be presenting.

  Transitioning Into College with Accommodations

This program will feature college disability resource coordinators, parents and students in a panel format. Panel speakers will share information about accommodations at the post secondary level from their different perspectives.  Learn about what is currently offered through your child's 504 Plan or Individualized Education Plan and the process for accessing what is available at the college level.
