Determination of the Curriculum and Course Offerings

a. Definition

The curriculum shall be considered the scope and sequence of courses offered at South Oldham High School.  This includes regular, advanced, AP, virtual, dual credit, and ECS (exceptional child services) classes.   All courses shall be under the auspices of the program of studies if pertinent and shall be assigned valid course numbers.  The curriculum of South Oldham High School is developed to meet the requirements of Kentucky’s Core Content for Assessment, Kentucky Department of   Education graduation requirements, and Advanced accreditation standards for quality schools.

b. Needs Assessment 
Each school year, lead teachers or classroom teachers with lead teacher approval shall provide the Guidance Department and Administrative Staff with a rationale and description of new courses to be included in the Course Catalog.  Each department shall monitor its course offerings with the intent to provide challenging and relevant courses that comply with the program of studies, the Core Content, and the requirements for admission to post- secondary institutions.

c. Curriculum Development/Course Offerings

Based on an annual review of student achievement data, the principal shall recommend curriculum changes to the council.  The council shall review and approve changes to the Course Catalog as necessary. New course recommendations should include a draft of sample syllabi and/or scope and sequence with estimated timelines.
