a. Course Selection

The Guidance Department will survey all students for course selection.  The Guidance Department will build a master schedule for the Principal’s approval.  The Principal will submit staffing needs for council approval.

b. Staffing and Master Schedule Considerations

Courses with insufficient numbers would include classes smaller than 18.  These classes may be combined with other sections of the same course.  Courses with 18 or less could be offered in alternate years to increase interest.  The school must have the necessary FTE allocations to offer classes with less than 18 students.

The Principal may make the decision to offer a class of less than 18 students.

Classes should not exceed 35 students.  Classes may be larger than 35 students through principal approval or after Guidance has the approval of the classroom teacher.

The number of students that a teacher normally has in a day should not exceed 150. The Principal or classroom teacher may increase this number based on necessity or teacher approval.

Exceptions to the above include Choir, Band, Exceptional Child Education Classes, Health, PE, CTE, Art, Foreign Language and Study Hall.
