Adkisson

We are excited to announce that Mr. Ron Adkisson, 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher, has been chosen a Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History Master Teacher Fellow!  The Gilder Lehrman Institute yearly recognizes one teacher per year from each state for excellence in the teaching of history.  Mr. Ron Adkisson received the award in 2012.  All previous winners were asked to apply and seven were chosen from the national pool.

Gilder Lehrman’s Master Teacher Fellows work with teachers and educators to improve content knowledge, align curriculum with their state’s core history, civics, and English language arts standards, including but not limited to Common Core initiatives, and introduce skills that can be brought back to the classroom, library, or museum—any institution looking to inspire more knowledgeable, focused, and engaged students.

Each Teaching Literacy through History program is customized to meet the needs of the participating school, district, or state. A suite of program options are available, ranging from multi-year partnerships to one-day workshops. TLTH trainings and follow-up sessions can be delivered on-site or online.

K–12 educators in the Teaching Literacy through History (TLTH) program learn how to create individual units, lesson plans, and curriculum tied to individual state standards; improve students’ critical thinking, close reading, and analytical writing skills through the use of historical texts and primary documents; employ a range of document-based teaching methods and classroom teaching techniques that Gilder Lehrman has refined over twenty years; become “teacher leaders” capable of using Teaching Literacy through History techniques to further professional development within their school.

Please join me in congratulating Mr. Adkisson!
