Link Crew NEWS: Link Crew is now accepting applications for both new and returning candidates.  All applications are due to Mrs. Hunt Rock or Mrs. Raque by February 27- NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

Oldham Leadership Academy ANNOUNCEMENT: REMINDER: If you are sophomore who is planning to apply for Oldham County Leadership Academy (see application materials on the homepage of Oldham County Schools website) then all application materials are due THIS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27th to Mrs. Moulder's mailbox in the office. No late applications will be accepted!

 

Senior ANNOUNCEMNTS:

-        Field trip forms are due Friday, February 27th.  Turn in your form and your three checks to the advisory board table at lunch.  You must sign 3 multiple receipt forms.

-        Balfour will be here March 5th during lunch to take orders for caps and gowns.  You must pay your total balance at time of ordering.  You MUST have a cap and gown to participate in graduation.

 

Dragon Beat ANNOUNCEMNT: Do you want to be an a cappella pop vocal ensemble?  YOU CAN!!  Dragon Beat auditions will be held this Friday before and after school in the choir room.  Sign up on the choir room door for a time slot.  At the audition, you will sing 1 minute of your favorite pop song (or the one that you sing the best).  Audition results will be posted on Monday.

 

Ski Club NEWS: A Terrific year!  Thanks to all members, sponsors and chaperones. This is the last week to purchase a long sleeve Ski Club T shirt. See Mr. Ising, $15.

 

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP NEWS (DEADLINE CHANGE): The deadline to apply for over $90,000 in scholarship funds thru Oldham County Community Scholarships is 5 pm March 1, 2015.  The scholarships are for graduating high school Seniors that reside in Oldham County. There are scholarships available for all types of students, not just the 4.0 students.  Some sponsors want a 2.5 GPA, others want a "well rounded student" that volunteers in the community and participates in school activities, others want students planning a career in a particular field or attended a particular elementary school.  There's something for everyone! There is one application to apply for numerous scholarships. Scholarships range from $500-$5000.  Students can continue to "tweak" their application until the deadline.  Go online to www.occs-ky-org to start the process.  Follow on Facebook for updates.  Volunteers and donations for new scholarships are always welcome.

 

Draconium/Dragon Tale ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Draconium (yearbook) and Dragon’s Tale (newspaper) are taking applications NOW for their 2015-16 staffs. If you like pictures, writing, computers, eating, and working with others, this could be the place for you!  You don’t need to have prior knowledge of journalism, just self-motivation and a willingness to work.  Stop by room 219 for your application today.  All applications are due by Thursday, March 5.

 

ATTENTION Senior Beta Club Members: Your completed hours are due the Monday after Spring Break, April 13, if you want to graduate with Beta honors.  Please see the Beta announcements (every Monday) for more information.

 

ATTN SENIORS: March 6 is the last day to join the PTSA if you want to be eligible for the PTSA scholarship. Both parent and student must be a member.

OCS ‘Why Do You Love Your School Lunch’ CONTEST: Do you love your school’s lunch?  Then this one’s for you! OCS wants to know why you love your school lunch by creating any piece of media that inspires you. There will be one first place among the 3 high schools! Additionally, there will be a chance for prizes to be awarded at each school throughout the month.  The deadline is March 31st. Please see the attached flyer for details.

 

Selective Service NOTICE: Attention all male students who are approaching age 18.  Did you know you are required by law to sign up with the Selective Service?  Please see attached brochure for more information.   Please note the website and phone number listed on the flyer if you have more questions.

 

FFCLA ANNOUNCEMENT: Join our team and help repair an essential for young girls who have been through more than we can comprehend: their confidence. Team Self-Esteem needs you to donate un-used make-up to help reach our goal. Read the FCCLA community service project attachment for more information.

 

Art Show NEWS: Art entry forms are available in the front office for the PTSA Talent and Art Show.

There are 11 art categories. Prizes are $25 for 1st, $15 for 2nd, and $10 for 3rd. Senior Portfolio award is $250 and Best of Show is $50. All work must be original and properly matted/prepared. March 25th is the due date for art work. Turn in art work to Ms. Luciano in room 210.

 

Swimming NEWS: The boys and girls swim teams competed at the State Regional Championships last Thursday and Friday, the boys finished 8th and the girls 6th. Setting new school records (there were 7 for girls and 3 for boys) for the team were:

  • Ashley Serad, Shelby Serad, Julia Roy, Lydia Jackson in the 200 medley relay
  • Lydia Jackson in the 200 free
  • Julia Roy in the 200 IM
  • Lydia Jackson in the 500 free
  • Madison Sackella, Josie Bushell, Ashley Serad, Lydia Jackson in the 200 free relay
  • Julia Roy in the 100 free
  • Julia Roy, Hannah Springer, Shelby Serad, Lydia Jackson in the 400 free relay
  • Easton Deshler, Avery Deshler, Max Houston, Matt Saxey in the 200 medley relay
  • Max Houston in the 100 fly
  • Avery Deshler, Easton Deshler, Caylem Ashcraft and Max Houston in the 200 free relay

The team will be competing for the final time this season next Friday and Saturday in the State Championship.

SOHS Parking NEWS: Students should not be parking in the Visitors row of parking, if so you will be booted or towed. Students must be parked in a parking spot, not on the grass, not in front of the band tower, and not on the concrete slab by the band tower. If you are not parked in a parking spot, you will be towed or booted. It will be a priority to check the lot more, and if you are illegally parked and or parked without a parking pass, you will be booted or towed!

 

FREE ACT PREP: Ms. Evanko, Ms. Hudson, and Mr. Ross will be leading free ACT Preparation sessions in Math, Science, and English for any sophomore or junior who are interested in learning tips to help them conquer the ACT successfully.  The last session will be an ACT practice exam on Saturday, Feb. 28th from 10-1. 

Commonwealth Honors Academy: The Commonwealth Honors Academy (CHA) is an exciting, challenging three-week academic, social and personal growth program for outstanding high school students who have completed their junior year. Students will be selected from the Commonwealth and surrounding region. Upon completion of the Academy, students will: receive six hours of university credit, have the opportunity to take three hours of tuition-free university courses at Murray State University during the subsequent fall and spring semesters, be awarded a four-year, $2,000-per-year housing scholarship to attend Murray State University. ATTENTION SOHS STUDENTS AND PARENTS:  Remember to check the SOHS Guidance Web page @ http://sohsguidance.weebly.com/enrichment-opportunities.html to find a variety of Enrichment activities and Opportunities.  This page will be updated regularly so check in often.

Electronic Device Reminder: Please leave your Nintendo devices at home.  Using them at school causes the wireless network to fail.

ESS schedule: Tuesday – English and Science; Wednesday – Math; Thursday – English, Math, and Social Studies.  Foreign language must be scheduled with the teacher.

College Visit Policy: ATTENTION JUNIORS AND SENIORS & PARENTS:  If you are planning on using a college visit please remember that you need to submit a request in writing from a parent/guardian to the attendance office no later than a week prior to the first day of absence.   Juniors you are allowed 1 college visit and seniors you are allowed 2 college visits.   If you do not submit your request to the attendance office a week prior to the first day of absence you not be eligible to use your allocated College Visit days.  Also remember that College Visitation Policy follows the same as the OCBE Vacation Policy which may not be used before or after an extended break such as three-day weekends and holiday breaks.

ATTENTION SENIORS:  To be eligible for PTSA scholarship a parent and Senior Student must be a member of the PTSA.

FCA News: FCA will meet every Wednesday at 8:05 in the GYM.
