While in the Culinary Arts class, students are exposed to a state-of-the-art industrial kitchen. Students receive classroom instruction but are quickly moved into the kitchen to learn hands-on skills. The program includes catering events for schools and other groups such as the La Grange Rotary Club. the students are responsible for the preparartion of most food items and for packaging the items for serving. In this class, there are moments that feel like being on the live set of a Food Network show.
The Culinary Arts program has three classes that prepare students for a career in the culinary industry. There is also an entry level class offered for students who just enjoy cooking or would like to learn more about how to prepare food. This class is called Cooking for Everyone and students gain the experience and knowledge to improve their abilities to prepare and serve appetizing meals for themselves or their families.
The Culinary program is currently working with the Oldham County Arts Center to provide the soup for the "Empty Bowls" project. This project is a fundraiser, the proceeds of which will benefit the "Blessing in a Backpack" program.
