Over 40 Summer Camps are offered every summer in Theatre, Music, Visual Arts and Dance at the Arts Center. Camps are open to all residents in Oldham and surrounding counties.

  • Most Camps run weekly from Monday - Friday (1/2 day, morning or afternoon)
  • Two camps can be combined to make a full day camp experience with a supervised lunch
  • Camps are available for ages 4 - 17

- Some camps are for one week or two weeks. Plus, there are 8 week classes available.
- Most camps will combine for a full day camp. There is an extra $10 fee for supervised lunch, campers bring their own sack lunch. Please combine camps according to age group within the same week. Suggested combinations are listed. For different combinations, please call the office at 502-241-6018.

Theatre

From Screen to Stage Theatre Camp  (Ages 5-8 Yrs)
Date: June 10 - 14

IT'S BACK! All new shows this year! We all know some of our favorite stage shows are turned into movies, but in this fun, energetic class, students will explore these “screen to stage” shows! Students will learn exciting choreography, basic music skills and grasp basic stage techniques, including projection and stage presence and learn how to work in both solo and ensemble settings.  Jump on board as we bring the silver screen on the golden stage.  Instructor: Gabe Vanover

On Broadway Camp (Ages 9 and Up)

This exciting camp will help students expand on their performance skills by combining three main areas of study: acting, dance, and music. Being an introductory level makes it appropriate for both those who have been in a lot of musicals, and also those who have never been in one. Songs and scenes from classic musicals will be taught to help them get closer to being a triple threat. Instructors: Kathie Davis and Trina Jackson

 

All That Jazz (Ages 8-12Yrs)

Concentrating on the fundamentals of movement onstage, this class will specialize in the knowledge and execution of basic dance technique, etiquette, and stage presence.  Students will build endurance and poise as they sing and dance to jazz and musical theatre choreography.  Designed to help build confidence and strength in dance, this class will prepare beginner students for future dance classes, performances and auditions.

Triple Threat Theatre Class (Ages 10 and Up)

Five, six, seven, eight! In the fast paced world of theatre auditions, casting agents, producers and directors are looking for the complete package! Can you sing, act and dance? If the answer is YES!, great and if the answer is NO!, even better! Join us as we break down the scary world of auditions so that you can handle them like a pro! This class will be intense, fast paced and REAL. The three basic skills of acting, singing and dancing will be taught by using fun Broadway tunes. In addition, instruction will be given on how to create a resume, audition tips and an opportunity to have a headshot taken to attach to an acting resume for auditions. This camp is for students with some musical theatre experience and will incorporate learning scenes, choreography and songs from the Broadway show, Godspell, and performing for parents and friends the last day of camp.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST (Ages 11 and up)

This camp is for students with a desire to learn greater skills in characterization and acting in the Non-musical theatre setting.  In the 2 weeks of preparation this group will be cast and produce this timeless and award winning play.

Famous Fables ( Ages 8-12 Yrs)

Beginning Guitar Camp (Ages 7-12 Yrs)

Private Instrumental Lessons (All Ages)

We welcome children and adults with no musical experience through advanced abilities to take private lessons in violin, viola, cello, piano, voice, guitar, electric guitar, keyboard, woodwinds, horns, mandolin, ukulele, bass, keyboard, or drums. The tuition fee is based on an 8 week session and payment is due by the first lesson. Taught by Arts Center Staff
 
School of Rock (Ages 11-17 Yrs)
Date: June 10 - August 2
Mondays, 6pm-8pm

This exciting 8 week program offers students an ideal opportunity to immerse themselves in performance and ensemble techniques under the direction of experienced faculty. Students will be placed in a band of similar musical interest, age, and ability. Pre-formed groups are also welcome. Weekly activities include master classes, ensemble and vocal coachings, songwriting, rehearsals, and instrumental technique classes. Students perform in a 'Jam' Concert at 7pm on the final evening. Students should have at least 6 months of study on their instrument. Instructor: Derek Harris

Guitar Ensemble (Ages 9 & Up)

This 8 week program offers guitarists the unique opportunity to experience ensemble playing of repertoire specifically for guitar groups. Rehearsals and performances create an exhilarating musical experience. Call the Arts Center to schedule a placement audition. Instructor: Derek Harris

 
Rock 'n Roll Explorations Camp (Ages 7-12 Yrs)
Date: July 8 - 12
1-4pm
$150 ($50 Deposit)
Rock instruments, vocals, songwriting, recordings, and CD design! An action-packed week for the budding "rocker." No previous experience necessary. Bring your own guitar or bass or we provide keyboard or drums. Led by Arts Center faculty in a friendly atmosphere where students play in a band, learn and write songs, and perform in an All Camp Jam Concert on the final day at 11am.

Folk Music Camp (Ages 8-18)

Join us if you have a guitar, mandolin, fiddle/violin, banjo, bass, or cello to learn the basics of American/Irish folk music. If you are either interested in folk music already or have no clue what folk music sounds like, delve in to this incredible summer experience working with experienced teachers of this genre. We will conclude the week with a performance. Students should have at least 6 months study on their instruments. Instructors: Derek Harris and Paul Martin

Visual Art  
 
Portrait Painting/Drawing Art Camp (Grades 5-8)
Date: June 10 - 14
9am-12pm
$135 ($50 Deposit)
Discover how to paint and draw portraits using amazing brush and pencil techniques. For people, focus will be placed on rendering facial features, shading and hair, and for pets we will focus on facial features and fur, feathers, or scales! Students will create a finished portrait by the end of the week. Bring your own picture to work from. All other supplies provided! Instructor: Kari Haan

Junior Potters on the Wheel Camp (Grades 5 - 8)

Cups and mugs, bowls and plates, pottery are loads of fun to create! From the wheel to the table, Junior Potter's wedge, throw, trim and glaze unique works of utilitarian art. Instruction will be given to each student at her or his level of experience. Come get your hands in clay in the OCSAC's pottery studio. Both new and returning students are welcome.

Papier-Mâché Summertime Animals Art Camp (Grades 3

 and up)
Date: June 17 - 21

Birds, bunnies, butterflies, ladybugs and more! Create a summertime animal of your own design using newspaper and papier-mâché. Sculptures will be embellished creative ways using feathers, fluff, felt, wire, pom-poms etc. Then make an art book about your animal.

Clay Play Camp (Grades 1-3 & 4-6)

What can you make with a lump of clay? So many wonderful, imaginative things! Find out as you work in our pottery studio and learn clay hand-building techniques including pinch, coil and slab. Explore form, texture and design. Creative projects include pots, wind chimes, zany cool creatures, characters from favorite books, movies or games, and a house/habitat for a pet/animal. Try out ideas from your imagination, too. Some pieces will be fired and you will also learn glazing techniques. Includes introduction to the wheel.

Creature Features Art Camp (4-8th Grade)
Date: June 24 - 28

Create your own creature! Who will he be? Where does he come from? Students will use fabric, polyfil, and other materials while learning to sew their own creature whether it looks like a dragon, robot, Martian, or anything else from their imaginations.

Digital Photography Camp (Grades 4-8)

Learn how to use your camera to take landscape, protraits and still life photographs. This camp will teach the basics fo good phtography and then have fun applying special effects with Adobe Photoshop Elements. By the end of the wek you will be taking pictures like a pro! Requirement: Must have a digital camera to use for the week.

Super Hero/Princess Art Camp (Ages 4 and up)

Get together with other princesses to make a fashionable new ensemble for ruling your realm! You will make princess jewelry and jewelry box, a princess skirt and even your own mini castle out of clay!
OR
Learn to be a super hero while you create your own super outfit. Will you be faster than a speeding bullet......stronger than steel.......or even invisible? We can help you make your ultra identity and outfit, utility belt, and special tools for your power and even make your arch-nemesis out of clay.

Comic Book Art Camp ( Grades 3-5 & 6-8)

Make a Mark, Paint a Mural (Grades 6-10)
Date: July 15 - 19

It isn't often that someone says, "Sure, you can paint on my wall." The Art Center has, so let's make the most of it! Students will have the opportunity to learn what it takes to paint a mural that will be inside the Art Center. They will learn everything from the tricks of sketching a large work on the wall, to watching the colors come to life, to seeing the impact on the place and people around the mural. Building teamwork through collaborative work while developing artistic skills will make this an opportunity students will not forget.

Hooray for Clay Camp (1-3 & 4-6 Grades)

Get excited to create with clay! Inspired by familiar and experimental art, as well as one another, students will imaginatively design, build and glaze vessels, figures and sculptures. Projects include sculpting animals, slab-built buildings, coil-building visionary vessels and more. Instruction focuses on creative hand-building. Includes introduction to the wheel.  For new as well as continuing students.

Art Extraordinaire Camp (Grades 1-3 & 4-6)

Spend a week this summer making insane amounts of art! From painting, to clay, to creating a diorama, this camp is filled with high-art adventure!

Skateboard Art (Ages 9 & up)

Start with a creative mind and a blank skateboard deck. Design it, paint it, ride it, or hang it as wall art! For yourself or a favorite skater! We'll also help you apply your skateboard theme by customizing your favorite skating apparel. Skateboard deck provided.

Summer Visual Art Institute (Grades 9-12)
Date: July 22 - August 2

$300 / Full Scholarship for Credit
Two week course that will focus on creating sculpture and ceramics sculpting.  Will include a field trip featuring an artist that sculpts in limestone.

Little Explorers Art Camp (Ages 4-6)

Young explorers will make all the familiar tools to go exploring with their pals, Dora and Diego. Campers will make backpacks, telescopes and maps to be well equipped for their next backyard adventure.

Glitter Girls (Ages 4-10)

Lavelle Smith Dance Camp (Ages 11-Adult)

Internationally known and MTV award winning choreographer Lavelle Smith Jr.(whose clients have included Beyonce Knowles, Destiny's Child, Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson) returns along with his good friend Eddie Garcia (whose clients have included Jennifer Lopez and Michael Jackson). Individuals, dance studios, teams, and teachers will take part in hip hop, jazz, contemporary classes and more throughout the week. Open to beginners through advanced dancers. Pre-Ballet/Tap Levels 1 & 2 (Ages 3-4, 4-5)

Tuesdays or Thursdays, call for class times

Students participate in an hour long ballet/tap combination class. Boys and girls will love moving, shaking, jumping, and twirling in this combination pre-ballet/tap class. Students will learn select basic positions, work on large motor skills, with the use of props and imagination exercises, all while gaining appreciation and knowledge of dance. This is a fun environment where creativity and imagination are cultivated. Instructors: Arts Center Staff
 

Ballet/Tap Levels 1, 2, 3, & 4 (Ages 5-6, 7-8, 9-11)

For advanced beginners, this 2 hour class has students continuing their skills in ballet and tap and they are introduced to the fundamentals of jazz and hip hop. This fun, upbeat class now will include dance movements for musical theater class, for added confidence at a school dance, or just to pretend to be in a music video. Youth Ballet/Tap/Jazz Levels C, D (Ages 12-18) OCPT Students Only

Princess Dance Camp (Ages 4-10)
Date: July 22 - 26

Students will be divided into two- three age groups and will learn three dances, a ballet, tap, and camp-wide dance all about princesses.  Students will take part in a craft and snack daily. No experience necessary.
